Oscar De La Renta:

Over the years in the fashion industry there are very few designers who have truly made an impact in almost every celebrity and commoner a like. One of those infamous individuals was Oscar De La Renta.

Dressing top A-list celebrities for red carpets, weddings, and award shows galore, Oscar De La Renta has left a lasting impact on the hearts of fashion lovers everywhere.

Above we have provided some of our favorite Oscar De La Renta dresses featured on some of our favorite short sisters. However for the full list of the best 100 dresses by Oscar De La Renta (although there are plenty more) you can visit Harper’s Bazaar.

The Man, not myth, but certainly a legend will be truly missed.

Taking It Back A Couple Steps:

Sometimes there are trends that happened a while ago, but you wish you could bring back to life. Lucky for you, this fall season there are new trends that we have seen before and could not be happier to see.

Ballet Shoes- Go back to your ballet class days with these cute toe shoes. And even though they don’t make you taller, we are all over this new flashback trend.

Bomber Jackets- Always wished you were pinned by that cutie on the football team like Sandy in Grease, no fear you can pin yourself with your own bomber.

Ripped Jeans- Who doesn’t love and good of ripped jeans? Plain and Simple.

Ear Cuffs- Don’t want to pierce your ear you can still look super cute without puncturing your cartilage. It’s the best of both worlds!!

Messy Buns- Even when you are not feeling like doing your hair, you can still look stylish. And having a high messy bun brings you up a couple inches.

Leather Totes- Being small girls we love large bags. Especially if it is leather we are always up for the challenge.

So flashback in time to old trends and make them new again.

There Is Nothing Better Than Heels:

Going back in history shoes have always been a prominent part of story lines and characters. Starting from the early days of our childhood with Cinderella and her glass slippers to Alice In Wonderland and the early days of Mary Janes, shoes are something that has often been overlooked but is a prominent aspect of any outfit and character.

Carrie Bradshaw of today with her blue Monolo Blahnik heels compared to our childhood of Dorothy in her ruby red slippers shows the transformation of one iconic figures key fashion pieces to another. Even Andy from Devil Wears Prada modernizes Audrey Hepburn’s classic black ballet heels.

Being a heel lover myself and owning a pair of red ruby slippers as a child, I understand the importance of a good pair of heels, especially when your small.

So lets take the time to think and thank all those who made us small people feel a little taller.

1. 1939 Dorothy’s Red Slippers in Wizard Of Oz

2. 1950 Cinderella’s Glass Slipper in Cinderella

3. 1961 Audrey Hepburns ballet flats in Breakfast At Tiffany’s

4. 2006 Devil Wear’s Prada Chanel thigh high boots

5. 2008 Carrie Bradshaw’s Monolo Blahnik’s in Sex And The City

And here’s to making history with our heels.

Put A Little Wang In It:

Alexander Wang has done it again by pairing his beautiful talents with the wonderful store of H&M.

The Swede fashion wonder himself is offering a new high fashion aspect to this collection however.  The winner of the H&M Design Award 2014, Eddy Anemian, a 24 year-old student at La Cambre in Brussels with an impeccable eye for color and dreamy prints on tailored ready-to-wear, was able to walk away with $50,000 euros and the opportunity to sell his pieces at select H&M stores and online this fall alongside Wang.

This collection includes vibrant maxi skirts, tailed jackets, and dreamy dress pants that will have you swooning. The collection launching on October 30th and Wang’s in November, there will be much to look forward to.

For us short girls we can start to look into some pieces we might want to purchase upon arrival.

Vibrant maxi skirts are always great options for those who are under 5 feet tall. You would think that they wouldn’t be due to the large amount of fabric, but the bright colors and flowy texture of the skirt actually does the opposite in making us short girls not seem so short.

Jackets! You can never go wrong with a jacket. When your short the length of the jacket can differ but typically jackets that run around your pant waist line are good choices, however you can never go wrong with a killer tuxedo jacket.

Dress Pants: although we may love the soon to come vibrant textured dress pants you may want to leave these on the rack. Due to our short legs (coming from experience) too much pattern can be a loss for us rather than a benefit. So try to stick with solids or small patterned items when it comes to pants.

Keep a look out for these coming collections. We know we will be.

It’s All About The Height:

When it comes to us short sisters, we try to make ourselves higher up in the world as much as we can. We try different pieces of clothing to elongate our legs, wear high heels till we fall, and put buns on top of our heads to make the illusion that our heads are closer to the ceiling than they really are.
But we are going to let you in on some secrets on how to really elongate your legs without seeming too obvious.
1.The higher the heel the better; and even cuter in our opinion-
You can never go wrong with a cute heel or wedge that is not only stylish but also adds some height to your numbers. Choose a style that works best for you, no matter how tall it might be, but don’t hurt yourself.
2. Match It-
Although you may want to go for that hot pink pump for style, a neutral color may help you look taller. By having something on you that blends into your skin tone, but also adds height makes you look event taller. Double Win.
3. High-Waisted-
When rocking the high-waisted jeans, skirts, shorts, etc you can know that you are elongating your legs. One fabric cropping your body higher up as opposed to low rise will make your legs seem sky high.
4. Monochromatic-
Lucky for you this style is so in right now. So rock your killer new jumper or romper because wearing an outfit that’s all one color will extend your entire silhouette, giving your legs that runway-ready look.
5. Bronzed Beauty-
A little bronzer never hurt nobody. Splash a little on your legs for color and dimension before that gorgeous tan goes away…some use it to show fake abs, we use it for height.
As Nicole Richie once said “It’s not easy being 5’1. There is an entire world up there that I don’t know about.”

Walk This Way:

Apologize from the short sisters for being a little distant these past weeks. With A in NYC for fashion week and E starting off her senior year, it has been one big whirlwind, but don’t fret. We are back and ready to give you the low down on the best fashion put forward for us short girls.

Starting with the model and celebrity walks as they walk to the runway shows of fashion week. Whether you are able to attend a show at Fashion Week or not the street style alone is enough to make you envious of those in the front row. Some fashion do’s that we have been taking away from these glamorous nobodies and somebodies are as followed.

The Jean On Jean: This look is one that can be rocked at any height. The element of showing off your cutest jean shorts of the summer while styling your latest jean button up as well makes for a cute jean jumper of its own.

Crop Top’s with pleated skirts: This look is one that us short sisters love. The v lining of the cropped top elongates your upper torso making you seem taller (which we always love), while the pleated skirt adds dimension to your legs. Just be careful not to wear too long of a skirt-stick to above the knees or else you will look shorter than before.

The white and the pop of color: Who doesn’t love a beautiful summer white paired with a vivacious red or orange lip. The contrast of colors, not to mention being able to show off your killer summer tan still is something we can never resist.

Try some of these looks out for yourself and be sure to keep a look out for more styles to come. Happy Fashion Week.

Emmy Gowns for Under 5 feet:

Award season among us requires an intense look into the wardrobes of TV’s best.

Dressing for any occasion is difficult, but when you are under 5 feet this is a treacherous task. Everyone is in heels so even that doesn’t give you a leg up. Gowns can drown you. Overtake your body. The heavy nature of many dresses become a work out to put on and drag around. The easy way out is to wear a cocktail dress the falls above the knee, but we shouldn’t disregard all floor length gowns due to the fear they will make us look shorter than our already short self.

The gowns on these ladies would look great on any petite girl. So take notes ladies…

Kerry Washington looked scandalous in this orange slit dress. I usually don’t care for her outfits, but this number was sleek, sexy and vibrant. The slit shows leg, which makes you appear taller.

*A short girl’s version of the Angelina.

Sarah Hyland’s Christian Siriano gown has a crop top that flatters her small figure. The break in fabric is fitting for the small body and is perfect for a young stylish girl in her 20’s like us.

Kaley Cuoco rocked a pixie and strapless gown. Ignore the awkward face in the photo and she looks amazing. The short hair and exposed shoulder elongate her upper torso. The peplum is very flattering on small short girls as well.

Hayden Panettiere is a fellow short sister hitting the 5 foot mark. Lorena Sarbu’s gown glitters to the floor and couldn’t be more of a perfect choice for the soon to be mom. The deep V-Neck line shows enough skin, while still covering up her body respectfully.

Next time your in the fitting room of Nordstrom’s crying while your cheap CVS mascara drips down your cheeks, remember the gowns these ladies wore on the Emmy carpet. If they can do it so can you.

Seductive:

Not too long ago, Target informed it’s shoppers that Altuzarra would be the next designer to create a collection for Target stores. The preview showed a lace mask and not much else.

Until yesterday that is all we knew.

The collection, debuting on September 14th in stores, is all for the confident & sexy woman.

It’s actually the best collection we have seen yet.

The satin cami set, with mask included, is perfect for role playing with Christian Grey or to add a little spice to your nightime pajamas.

We drooled over the ruby red velvet blazer and matching tuxedo pant. This would look good paired together or mismatched with jeans and a white tank.

For the short sisters out there, we recommend you keep your eye out for the croc effect belt and over the knee boot. The belt will synch your waist, flattering your small figure and the boots…well besides functioning as a weapon and they kicking a**.

Decode This:
Putting on makeup can be hard sometimes. Your cat eye wings never come out perfectly even, you get lipstick on your tooth, and that new hair product you were told to try doesn’t seem to be working.
However, sometimes all you need to remember are the simple tricks that will help you get by and make your life easier.
Here are some of our makeup tricks to decode and try for yourself:
1. Perfect your cupid’s bow by drawing an “X” on your upper lip first as a guideline. Will Make putting lipstick on that much easier.
(Also to make sure lipstick does not get on your teeth, after applying insert your index finger in the middle of your mouth, press your lips down around it making an o with your lips, and pull your finger back out-doesn’t make smudges or teeth marks)
2. Turn a pencil eyeliner into a gel formula with the help of a match or lighter.
3. Cover your eyelid with white liner to make any eyeshadow shade pop.
4. Draw your cat eye first, and then fill in the open space for a perfect winged liner application every single time.
5. Use a spoon to create the perfect winged liner.
6. Draw a slanted hashtag at the outer corner of your eye, and then blend it for an instantly smoky effect.
7. Use that same spoon to avoid mascara marks on your upper eye lid.
8. Add saline solution to a flaky mascara formula to re-wet it again.
9. Hit your eyelash curler with a hair dryer to heat it up so your lashes curl easier.
10. Apply eyelash glue to false lashes with the tip of a clean bobby pin.
11. Dust on translucent powder in between coating on mascara to plump up your lashes.
12. For long-lasting lip color, swipe on your shade, lay a tissue over your mouth, and then dust translucent powder over it to set the color.
13. Mix loose pigments with a salve or petroleum jelly to make your own custom lip gloss.
14. Conceal dark circles and puffy eyes the right way by creating a triangle with your cover-up.
15. Map the contours of your face with a gel eyebrow pencil, since it’s easier to apply precisely and blend in.
16. Make contouring look more natural by using a pencil, pen, or makeup brush handle as your guide to finding exactly where your cheekbone is.
17. Blot your face in a pinch with a clean toilet seat cover—-weird but effective if your in a pinch and using your office bathroom…preferably not public ones (you don’t know where they have been)

Right On The Dot:
When it comes to short sisters like us, one thing we fear is too many patterns. Polka dots, stripes, zig zags, you name it, it is hard for someone who is already short to master all of these styles. But one style we have been working on is polka dots.
The simplicity of the dots is something that makes it easy to pair with other clothes without overwhelming our bodies. Due to the fact that us short sisters are already short as they come, the last thing we want to do is make ourselves shorter.
For rocking the polka dot trend you have to think less is more. The smaller the polka dots like shown in the pants above, the less it will overwhelm your body. We are also curvy so picking colors that smooth out our curves rather than burst them are key. Think more on darker colors like blacks, maroons, and navy. Although we wish we could rock these bright yellow pants, yellows, whites, and oranges are too bright for such vibrant small girls like us.
Try your own polka dots out for yourself!

Pixie Fairy:

If you are anything like us short sisters, you are currently obsessed with the new TV show Candidly Nicole starring Nicole Richie in all her glory.

A short sister like ourselves, Nicole Richie is the cool chick from the block that doesn’t care what other people think about her. Her pixie purple hair, killer outfits, and outrageous sense of humor is what makes us love her.

Girls like us who wear heels to look taller, can’t quite fit the soul cycle peddles, and are tired of talking to people’s nipples as Nicole likes to say, we definitely have to stick together! She is our favorite short sister girl of the month!

The End Of A Track Suit Era:
As some of you may have heard, Juicy Couture is shutting it’s doors to all stores in the USA. This means those Juicy tracksuits you hate to love are going to cease to exist except for in department stores, so get them while you still can!!
The brand is loved by all middle schoolers trying to be cool by wearing full velour track suits to mom’s like Regina George’s in Mean Girls that just want to be seen as the fab girl that everyone loves.
These track suits although made fun of sometimes were the comfiest outfits we have owned as short sisters. We did not have to even hem them too much so they still looked normal on us short sisters. They were the perfect outfit to MCAS and SAT testing and even early morning roll out of bed to class or the dining hall at college.
These track suits have seen the best and the worst of our lives. The 6th grade boyfriends, the A on our math test, the food fight in the cafeteria, being sent home because having juicy written on your butt was inappropriate (bet you can’t guess which short sister this happened to) and even the last day of high school ever.
We will forever miss the track suit era, and whoever wants to make a better one has some big shoes to fill.
We will miss you Juicy. RIP track suits.
